The first case study of the GeosciencesIR project has produced a video that shows the first result of the collaboration between the University of Insubria and ISPRA. The video summarizes the survey of paleoseismology on the eastern slope of Mount Etna following the earthquake of 2018 that caused significant damage to the houses located in the fault zone. The establishment of a reconstruction commission allowed for in-depth studies, including the analysis of paleoseismic trenches. The video presents an example of the process of studying one of the trenches, which allowed for a deeper understanding of the paleo earthquakes that occurred in the area and to evaluate the possibility of future seismic events in the exact location. The reportage was made as part of the GeosciencesIR project, which will provide specific training for regional technicians involved in seismic microzonation and paleoseismic analysis.
